Who: Aged 3-6-year-old boys & girls from Saskatoon and the surrounding area. 

What: Learning football fundamentals through a variety of skill stations and activities. We create groups of 8-10 participants with 2 coaches per group for a proper player to coach ratio. We begin with a fundamental movement warm-up and circuit through 5 stations and finish with a cool down stretch. Our main focus is on fun and skill development. 

When: Sunday's in September and October

Where: Practices will be at Cumberland Park (Corner of 8th Street and Cumberland Ave).

Why: For youth to get active, healthy, learn football skills and have fun. We emphasize skill development, player safety, and football fundamentals. We teach the importance of participation and cooperation. Our coaches do a great job creating a positive and fun football experience for all our participants.

Cost: $100 - Additional late fees will start on August 1st, 2019.

Cancellation Policy:

We have a $50 admin fee for removal of all players.


Tykes on Spikes is the latest addition to the Saskatoon Minor Football Programming. This program is an introduction to Fundamental Sport Skills and Fundamental Football Skills using a fun collection of games and activities that keep youngsters active and instill a love for sport and football. This is a learn to play football camp and will be offered to any 3, 4, 5, or 6-year-old boys and girls looking develop a flag football skill set and functional movement foundation. The program will consist of five sessions held on Sunday's in September and October at Cumberland Park. This camp will cover skills like carrying, catching, and throwing the football as well as flagging, running, jumping, and moving the body with speed, balance, and control. We will coach in a progressive manner building on a week-to-week basis with our main focus on having lots of fun!!

Program Cost:

  • Regular Registration: $100 - Until August 1st 2018
  • Late Registration: $150 - August 1st - 31st, 2018
  • Registration Closed:  September 1st , 2018



There will be 5 groups of Tykes starting at either 9:00 am, 10:00 am or 11:00 am. Each practice will consist of a warm-up and participating in five football fundamental skill stations. Each group will rotate from station to station learning skills through football drills. We will finish with a cool-down stretch.

All practices will be 55-60 minutes in length.

Your young football players will be coached by current or past Hilltop, Huskie, Valkyrie Players.
We will be emailing all participants on in early Sept with grouping and times. If you have any requests or time preference email



The only equipment a participant needs is a pair of running shoes, soccer or football cleats. We will give out player t-shirts at the first practice so please arrive 15 minutes early to your first session. We will email each group with their time and jersey colour in early September.


We will practice in all types of weather except lightning and extreme conditions. Always be prepared by having lots of layers, toques, mitts, winter gear, blankets, etc. 

Lead Instructor:

Matt Yausie will be leading these sessions with the help of current High School, Hilltop, Huskie, & Valkyrie players. Matt has a lifetime of football playing and coaching experience. He has coached in the SMF league in both flag and tackle, as well as in the KFL, CIS and currently coaches with Aden Bowman Senior Football Team and The Saskatoon Hilltops. Matt is certified with Football Canada as a Master Learning Facilitator for Intro to Competition in Flag Football, has a Kinesiology degree and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist designation.
